Forestry Mulching vs Bulldozing: Which Is Better for Your Eastern NC Land?
May 10, 20265 min read
"Should I mulch it or bulldoze it?" is the most common question landowners in Eastern NC ask.
Forestry mulching wins when…
- You want root system intact (slopes, erosion-sensitive areas).
- You're under county burn restrictions.
- Vegetation is mostly under 6–8" diameter.
- You want a clean finish with no piles.
Bulldozing wins when…
- You need stumps gone.
- The job has heavy timber over 10".
- You need bare dirt for a slab.
- The debris has to be off-site.
The hybrid we run most
Mulch the underbrush, then send in the excavator and dozer for stumps and big timber. Faster than pure bulldozing, cleaner than pure mulching.
Pricing reference
- Forestry mulching: $1,800–$3,500/acre
- Bulldozing + stump: $2,500–$5,500/acre
